High Expectations For 2019 Knights Lacrosse

Following an 8-3 2018 season, the UCF Knights look to really impress in the coming Spring. Last year had some setbacks for the Knights. Losing two major in-conference games against UF and FSU has been in the mind of the players and coaches. Even with the mentality of “one game at a time” it’s fair to say the loses fueled the energy and tone in the Fall as they prepared for the upcoming season.

The Knights, led by Head Coach Mike Von Kamecke, can seriously make noise in the 2019 season considering the strength of their schedule. Four of their opponents were ranked in the Inside Lacrosse MCLA Division I Preseason Top 20, Teams such as FSU, Boston College, and Liberty. Staying consistent and stringing together some quality wins could be just what the Knights need to get over the hump this season.

The Knights return some standout players such as JD Brady on attack and Tyler Gaffney at midfield. They also expect players to step-up into a more dominant role like Senior goalie Chris Cacciatore, or Juniors Ian Lukas and Adam Hale at midfield. Mixed in with a new talented freshman class with players such as Zack Ott out of Nease, this Spring could be the perfect storm for UCF.

Defensively, the Knights return starters Daniel Farraye and Matt McCawley, two experienced leaders. Combining the talent they have on offense with their strong defense led by Assistant Coach Austin Ricci, the Knights could have what it takes to bring down some big opponents this season.
